Diamine Glacier
This is the first of the Diamine Starbright inks, and it’s a real stunner. This is the brightest shimmer I’ve ever seen, and it’s awesome, but it can be really hard to read unless you get the light just right. You’ll see a few images below that are difficult to see through the shimmer, but I also took some pictures where I tilt the paper so that the light doesn’t bounce off as brightly.
This ink (and the other starbright inks) are going to be hard to find for a while. Diamine sent out a letter (that I’ve seen online) saying that the shimmer was out of production and they were looking for another supplier. I do hope they’ll find one, but supplies of Glacier, Chilly Night, and Noble Fir could get scarce until then. Or not! We never know what production is going to be like.
Whew, that’s hard to read!
Ah, that’s better. You’ve just got to tilt the paper a bit.
Click the images below to see some close-ups of this ink. I had to tilt it so that you could read the text, because the shimmer is SO bright when you look at it straight-on.
This one isn’t waterproof at all. Keep the Glacier away from the water, y'all.
This shimmer is seriously bright.
Here’s the copy paper test for this ink. It works pretty well on this 20lb, 30% recycled copy paper. There is a little bit of bleed, but not much, and you’re not super likely to be using this on copy paper anyway. This is a special occasion ink.
I really like this ink, but it’s not going to work for everything. If you’d like to make a big impression with some writing, though, this could be the ticket. Flourishes, holiday cards, illumination. That’s where the Glacier can really shine. Let it be the star.
Or just use it all the time in your journal and letters and work product. Get crazy. Let it shine.
