Platinum’s 3776 Shape of Heart Bluebird

These Shape of Heart pens from Platinum are always beautiful. They’re also expensive and hard to get. The Bluebird was no exception. It cost $430 when I bought it at Atlas Stationers. It was also a preorder that sold out everywhere immediately.( I think that’s how I ended up with an Extra Fine nib.)

This is also the last of the Shape of Heart series. I didn’t know that when I bought it, but I’m extra glad I caught one when I did.

These aren’t mine. They belong to my friend Kimberly, and you should click the picture to go enjoy her Instagram!

The defining feature of this line of pens is the dome full of zirconium crystals mixed with little gold hearts. The hearts are a reference to the heart-shaped breather hole in Platinum’s nibs, and finding them in the dome can be a real challenge. They’re in there, though, and it’s fun to find them.

I found the hearts in the finial! You can actually see all 4 of them here, and that’s a bit of a miracle.

I’ve heard folks say that they’re actually the punched-out hearts from the nibs, but I don’t think that’s true. They’re listed in product descriptions as “inspired by” those hearts, but they’re thicker than they would be if they were from a nib, and I’m pretty sure they’re just little gold hearts. Still fun, though!

I’m usually pretty frugal with my purchases, but this matte blue and off-white pen with rose gold trim really called to me, and I had some store credit at Atlas (thanks for using my code “inkdependence” at checkout over there!). And I don’t regret this one at all. It’s beautiful and I love it.
