The Wet Pen Rainier Blue
Okay. Look. I spelled “Rainier” incorrectly in just about every place I could. That includes every mention on this blog post. The difference is that I can just go back and spell check the blog post. I can’t really do that in the writing sample, the Col-o-Dex card, the review page, etc, etc. I know. I know.
Matthew at The Wet Pen makes some great inks, and this is one of them! It’s a very good blue with enough sheen to be able to see it, but not so much that it overwhelms the base color. Nice.
These inks are made and bottled by Matthew up in Seattle, WA, and they are named after events and places around the area. I like supporting small makers and I do love an ink with a story, so those are plusses even if the ink weren’t excellent. But it is.
Rainier Blue on Nebula Casual Note paper.
Rainier Blue isn’t water resistant, so don’t look for that in this ink.
There’s a little bit of bleed and just a couple of feathers on the 20lb copy paper. Most things bleed at least a bit, so this is a good result. (Don’t forget to click the images to embiggen.)
This is on some Sanzen Tomoe River paper, and it’s striking.
I like these close-ups. The sheen is perfect in this ink.
Okay, lots of inks to compare it to. This is a shade of blue that I like, and so I have several of them in the collection. Here are a few of the closest ones. (Click to embiggen.)
Verdict: It’s great. Buy it. Just don’t misspell it like I did. Over and over. <sigh>
